About TTI

The Travel Technology Initiative (TTI) was founded in 1989 to establish technology standards within the travel industry.   At that time, a number of leading travel companies recognised the benefits of using common system interfaces and documentation and agreed to form an industry wide group to develop technology standards.

Since then, TTI membership has grown to over 80 members covering countries across Europe and the USA.   In that time, TTI has become the recognised authority on Electronic Data Interchange and e-commerce within the European travel industry and has also developed and introduced standardised ticket formats both for ATB2 and more traditional coupons.

TTI has widened its remit to include three primary objectives:

  • To engage in and/or coordinate technology and business process projects that are of benefit to TTI members and the Travel Industry, including the continuance of the standards work in which TTI has been engaged to date
  • To organise events such as Conferences, Workshops and Forums as well as operate a Web site and publish a newsletter
  • To coordinate its activities with other relevant bodies

TTI is managed by a Board of Director Shareholders from the Travel Industry with day to day activities handled by Liz Rylance our Administrator with Technical issues & OpenTravel involvement handled by Tony Williams our Technical Consultant.   There is also a Management Committee consisting of TTI members who are willing to give their time to attend the quarterly meetings that direct TTI activities.   Development activities are delegated to Project Teams which are resourced by member organisations.

  • TTI has an Alliance agreement with the OpenTravel Alliance  with whom it works closely.  It chairs or is represented on a number of OpenTravel committees.
  • TTI has become the recognised message standards and e-commerce authority within the European Travel Industry
  • TTI maintains and publishes the Unicorn EDI messages which are used by the Travel Industry world-wide
  • It has developed a message called REScon to transfer booking information from a tour operator videotext system to a travel agent's local system
  • It has also developed a standard format for availability information (TOPAS)
  • TORIX is an XML message set which has been developed for the booking of package holidays

An important remit for TTI is to bring together like-minded individuals who have an interest in keeping up to date with what is happening in Travel Technology.   TTI holds twice yearly conferences that tackle the important topics of the day.   It also holds forums - shorter, more interactive events - that provide a platform for discussion and debate on hot topics.   These events are also great networking opportunities, bringing together travel industry executives and technologists in a convivial, friendly atmosphere.

If your organisation is not already a member, why not join us?   TTI is a not-for-profit organisation and, as a result, is able to set its membership fees at a surprisingly low rate.
